School readiness here isn't worksheets or memorised facts. It's a child who can share an idea, join a group, cope with change and keep trying when something is hard. We grow that through nature, play, real responsibility and relationships that come first.

Our strength comes not from our name or our spaces alone, but from our tamariki, whānau, kaiako and community together.

Our story

Rooted in this community for more than 25 years.

Our story didn't start with a new name. For more than 25 years, families here have trusted us with their tamariki, led by Joanna, an early childhood teacher and mum of three, alongside kaiako who know this place and its people.

Canopy is the next chapter of that story. A canopy shelters everything growing beneath it, but it's only as strong as what holds it up: our tamariki, whānau, kaiako and the wider community around us. That's why our learning reaches beyond the centre gates, into local parks and gullies, a partnership with a retirement community, and projects that give back to the place we belong.

    Canopy Nature School

    Regular, sustained time in local forests, parks and gullies, through every season. Our weather-ready clothing and gumboot library means every child can take part.

  2. 02

    Kai grown and cooked here

    Our centre cook prepares nourishing meals each day. Children grow food in the Kai Garden, measure ingredients, set the table and eat together.

  3. 03

    A key kaiako from day one

    Babies and new children have one familiar kaiako who learns their routines, cues and whānau, so settling in feels safe and gentle.

  4. 04

    Real tools, real responsibility

    Older children build and repair with real tools in our making area, with careful supervision. Their jobs around the centre are meaningful, not token.

    Canopy Grandfriends

    An ongoing partnership with a retirement community, built around shared stories, games, music, gardening and making.

  6. 06

    Learning you can see

    We share what your child is learning to do, not just what they did, through conversations and Storypark. And we want to hear what you notice at home.

Four rooms, one story. Children begin held and known, find their curiosity, grow alongside others and reach further. Moves between rooms are carefully planned, never rushed.

Starting at Canopy

A gentle beginning, at your child's pace.

    Come and visit

    Meet our kaiako, explore the spaces and get a feel for whether we're the right fit for your child and whānau.

  2. 2

    Settling visits

    Short visits before starting, so your child gets to know our people, places and rhythms. Every child settles differently, and we plan it with you.

  3. 3

    The first weeks

    Your child's key kaiako keeps you updated, and learning is shared through conversations and Storypark.

What are your opening hours?

Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 5.30pm, excluding public holidays and planned closure dates. Contact us for current session options.

What ages do you care for?

Children from birth to six years, with spaces and routines designed for each age and stage.

What are your fees, and do you offer 20 Hours ECE?

Fees depend on your child's age, enrolled days and booked hours, so please contact us for the current fee schedule. Eligible three, four and five year olds may receive up to 20 Hours ECE each week, and we're happy to explain how that applies to you.

Do you provide meals? What about allergies?

Yes. Our centre cook provides nourishing food for the children. Share your child's allergy and medical information with us so we can plan carefully. Some children may need an individual health or allergy plan before starting.

Do children go outside in wet or cold weather?

Yes, when it's safe. Fresh air, movement and nature are part of every day, so please pack weather-appropriate gear. Our clothing and gumboot library helps fill any gaps.

What should my child bring each day?

Named spare clothes, weather-appropriate gear and any agreed comfort item. Children paint, garden, splash and get messy here, so practical clothing is best.

What if my child cries at drop-off?

Crying can be a normal part of settling. Our kaiako will comfort your child, help them find connection and play, and keep you updated so you know how they're going.
